Lechweg Trail

From the spring to the waterfall - a route to yourself!

This is an easy long-distance hiking trail through the Alps and one of the last unspoilt river landscapes of Europe.

On the approximately 125 kilometres of the route hikers are accompanied by Lech river. From its source near Formarinsee lake in the Austrian province of Vorarlberg to Lechfall waterfall in Füssen in the Allgäu area.

From the waterfall that suddenly disappears as if by magic only to reappear later one continues along the Austria’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge to the Bavarian royal castles.

The trail connects three regions and two provinces and their traditions and histories. From the Arlberg area past the Tyrolean Lechtal-Reute nature park region to the southern Allgäu area. All three regions have been shaped by the Lech River over the centuries.

Lechweg Trail - certified long-distance trail

The European hiking association has subjected the province-crossing Lechweg Trail to a strict quality test. The result was that the long-distance trail is now the first Leading Quality Trail. The Lechweg trail is now a model for long-distance trails in all of Europe.
